Fast Talking?

Nope, a fast FROM talking. That's what I'm on today.

I was having a quiet time (quiet doesn't happen around here often, but I actually had some this morning AND even spent some of it in my Bible). I was praying and asking God for some of His creativity in dealing with my kids... yesterday was so frustrating for both Weldon and me... the kids just don't hear us anymore. And in the back of my mind, I'm remembering the wisdom from the book, "Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours" by Kevin Lehman. Basically that it's not the kids fault they don't hear you... they know you don't mean business until your voice reaches a certain pitch, so they block out all the other words (noise!)...

So, right after I prayed, I remembered a lady I heard once on Focus on the Family, Rhea Zakich (http://rheazakich.com/journey.shtml). She had lost her voice and was told she shouldn't talk for a month. On her way home from the doctor, she was so sad, thinking how hard it would be on her kids. She was shocked when she told her family and the kids were excited! It ended up that she wasn't able to talk for several months... and ended up creating the "UnGame." So I decided not to talk for a day... then I amended that to trying it for an hour, then maybe until noon if it was going well.

Well, here it is almost two hours later. I must admit that it is harder -- writing notes and having to move to where they are. But they're already responding better. And I'm not yelling, which is a HUGE improvement in our home!

I just have to talk a couple of times on the phone in a little while, but not to the kids. We'll see how it goes!
