Did anyone else know about this? I just heard about it for the first time about 5 minutes ago.

Here is a link to sign the petition to depublish this ruling if you'd like to sign it, too: http://www.hslda.org/

Yes, I heard it on the radio today also. It seems crazy and very tragic if it holds. In the mean time, you can encourage your readers to sign the petition by the Home Schoolers Legal Defense Association at: http://www.hslda.org/
They hope to have the court depublish the case, so that it would not apply to anyone other than the family of the original case.

Glad you posted on this - I did also. I have family who are in CA and considering homeschooling their kids - it could never happen if this runing stands as they both have AA credits but no teaching certificates. I am surprised at the overall response that I have gotten on a personal note, most of those I speak to outside of the homeschool comunity are under the 'well, it will solve the bad homeschooler problem won't it?' Trusting God in this as in all things - d

Curiously, there was another Mrs Broberg in California who runs a home-schoolers support group who was interviewed for a story on this subject in North County Times:

Margaret Broberg, who runs Shepherd's Heart School in Vista, said the decision left her anxious.

A mother of five, Broberg runs a home school support group and has operated her school for about 12 years.

Broberg said she believes the freedom of independent study at home allows parents to find the most effective way for their children to learn.

"Public schools don't offer what we can offer at home for our children," she said. "They don't have the depth they're capable of learning when let go to learn on their own, following their own methods and their own interests."
